How it works
- Open the page — no click or download needed.
- Press each key on your keyboard.
- The matching key lights up while held and turns green once detected.
- Check the Key and Code values, then use Reset Test to start over.
How to test your keyboard
Press every key once, including both Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys. Hold a key to see it stay highlighted — holding it doesn't add to the count. Watch the counter and progress bar to see how many of the 104 standard keys have been detected.
Why some keys may not appear
- Your operating system or browser handles some keys first — for example the Windows/Command key, Print Screen, F11 (full screen), Fn, media keys and shortcuts like Ctrl+W or Alt+Tab.
- Ctrl and Cmd shortcuts are left to your browser so you're never stuck on the page.
- Some keyboards send a different code for a key, or share keys between layers.
What to do if a key isn't detected
Try another browser or app, check the cable or batteries, and test with a different keyboard if you can. A key that doesn't show up here isn't necessarily broken — the system may simply be catching it first.
Privacy
This keyboard test runs entirely in your browser. Key presses are shown on screen only — they are never recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and analytics never include which keys you pressed.
Supported formats
Designed for physical keyboards on a standard US/English layout. On phones and tablets it's mainly useful with an external keyboard attached; the on-screen keyboard is not opened automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Does an untested key mean it's broken?
No. Keys that have not been pressed remain untested. Only press-and-see results are shown, and even a key that isn't detected may be handled by your system before the browser sees it.
Can this diagnose hardware faults?
No. A browser can only report the key events it receives. Use it as a quick check, not as proof of a hardware fault.
Does it work on a laptop?
Yes. Laptops often lack a number pad or use an Fn key; Fn itself is handled by the keyboard and is never visible to the browser.
